BIOGRAPHY
Estela Kersenbaum Olevsky has an enthusiastic following in the USA, Latin America, Europe and Asia. In a highly diversified career as a soloist and collaborative pianist, she has performed in musical centers throughout the world, including New York City's Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, Merkin Hall, the 92nd Street "Y", Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, Boston's Jordan Hall, Vienna's Konzertverein, Berlin's Philharmonie and Amsterdam's Concertgebouw. As a soloist, she performed with the the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional and the Bach Festival Orchestra under Karl Richter in Buenos Aires, the Schumann Philharmonie in Germany, the Janácek Philharmonic and Bratislava Radio Orchestra in Czechoslovakia, among others. An avid chamber music player, Ms.Olevsky has partnered with distinguished soloists and chamber music groups such as the Berlin Philharmonic Festival Soloists, the Lark String Quartet, violinist Eugene Drucker (of the Emerson Quartet), cellist Joel Krosnick (of the Juilliard Quartet) and for two decades with her late husband, violinist Julian Olevsky. On many occasions she performed in duo recitals with her sister, pianist Sylvia Kersenbaum. Together with jazz pianist Billy Taylor, she presented an innovative program entitled "It's All Music" at the Kennedy Center in Washington,D.C. This program, which brings together similarities and differences between classical music and jazz, is available to schools and educators throughout the USA as part of the Arts-Based Educational Programs via Satellite (grades 7-12) (http://www.kennedy-center.org/education/pwtv/). Her recordings include Piano Solos of Latin America (Centaur Records), Ravel's Piano Concerto in G Major (Opus Records), Richard Strauss' Burleske for Piano and Orchestra (Stradivari Classics), the Complete Mozart Works for Violin and Piano with Julian Olevsky (Doremi). As a member of the Olewsky Trio she recorded the Complete Brahms Piano Trios and the Tschaikowsky and Arensky Piano Trios (Amatius Classics). She has been a guest teacher at Hartt School of Music, Dartmouth College, Mt. Holyoke College, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, the National Conservatory of Buenos Aires, Beijing's Central Conservatory and the Shanghai Conservatory. Invited by the Piano Faculty and composer William Bolcom, she participated on a program of Latin American music at the University of Michigan. She regularly performs with her colleagues at University of Massachusetts at Amherst where she is Professor Emerita of Piano and chaired the Piano Department until May 2002. Born in Argentina of Austrian and Italian parents, Estela Kersenbaum Olevsky made her debut in Buenos Aires at the age of ten. After graduating from the National Conservatory of Buenos Aires at age sixteen, she continued music studies at the Teatro Colón Institute in Buenos Aires where she received a conducting diploma. Her teachers in Argentina included Maria Angelica Roldan, Eugenio Bures and composer Alberto Ginastera. She also coached with pianists Richard Goode (USA) and Bruno Seidlhofer (Switzerland).
