Thursday July 2nd at 6:30 pm
At the Jones Library, Amherst's own composer Robert Stern will introduce his new work, Music for a Midsummer Evening, written to celebrate the Town of Amherst's 250th year to be performed by Amherst residents Laura Klock, horn, Lynn Klock, saxophone and Estela Olevsky, piano.

Composer Stern has written a seven movement suite which he will introduce and discuss with all the performing artists illustrating the underlying inspiration for this delightful composition to be presented in Charlemont July 3/4.

Thursday July 16th at 6:30 pm
At the Jones Library, Gabriela Lena Frank and William Bolcom will introduce and preview their new works which will be premiered in concert at Charlemont, July 17/18.

Bolcom, an international figure especially renowned for his large scale works, operas, symphonies, concertos also has a very special gift for theatre and cabaret and will premiere for Mohawk Trail Concerts the recently completed set of twelve 'MiniCabs', sayings of poet/librettist Arnold Weinstein he has set which will be sung by his matchless partner mezzo-soprano Joan Morris.

Gabriela Lena Frank is a brilliant composer/pianist of Andean heritage who will select and play pieces created to depict the distinctive characteristics of music from South American countries such as Chile, Peru and Ecuador contained in her vast volume of compositions, A Book of Quipus.

The Jones Library is most generous in offering to music lovers in general and particularly the forthcoming concert audiences a wonderful public opportunity to learn from the composers and discuss with them and their performing artists the way a new composition is created and readied for public performance: a chance that is invaluable and rarely available before a premiere presentation.

All are invited and admission is free. Tax deductible donations may be made to further and sustain these public offerings and will be gratefully received and shared by the Jones Library and Mohawk Trail Concerts.
